When people throw out dog or cat waste enclosed in a plastic bag or box liner, they keep it from disintegrating, as the polyethylene products don’t decompose fully. Available today, however, for this use are two green, wholly biodegradable, and therefore environmentally friendly, products.
They are dog waste bags and cat pan liners, both made by BioBag
(www.biobagusa.com), a Florida-based company.
Instead of adding to the tons of plastic grocery bags that end up in our landfills each year, why not pick up Fido’s mess with BioBag’s dog waste bags which are one hundred percent biodegradable. When exposed to the earth’s elements and the soil’s micro-organisms, the bags decompose in about ten to forty-five days. Additionally, they don’t leave behind any harmful residues.
Disposing of cat waste from the litter box poses the same problem. Why throw away plastic liners that take years to decompose? An alternative is cat pan liners by BioBag. These polyethylene- and chemical-free waste bags and box liners are made with cornstarch, vegetable oil and other renewable resources. The corn used is free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The inks and dyes used in coloring and printing of the bags are soy-based.
BioBags breathe, allowing the release of heat and moisture and, therefore, reducing the weight and extending freshness during waste collection. In addition to being biodegradable, the cat pan liners also are non-allergenic.
Look for BioBags at local natural food stores. A box of 50 full-size BioBag Dog waste bags retails for about $5 to $6, with a box of 10 BioBag cat pan liners costing a bit more.
