From the Editor: Fresh Ideas…
August (for most kids growing up) is always a transition month….the end of summer…the beginning of a new school year. That’s exactly what August is for us here at Nevada Home. If you caught Chérie Turner’s letter in the July edition, that marked her last issue as editor. As she starts a new life in the Bay Area, I too am starting a new life here in Reno, as editor of Nevada Home.
And I can’t tell you how thrilled I am! Things are both new and exciting, as well as old and familiar. Moving into the editor’s position is definitely new for me, but magazine publishing is not. I have been with Nevada Home since its inception in January of 2006, but as sales director. Before that, I was with Reno Magazine and have experience in media with the Reno Gazette-Journal and KRNV News 4. All told (and I hate to admit this as it’s telling my age), I’ve been in media in Reno for more than twenty years. And I grew up here, went to school here, married and have kids here. Reno is my home, and it just seems right that I am now the editor of Nevada Home.
I have seen Nevada Home evolve over the past 2½ years. With input from readers, artists, writers and staff members, I believe we have really “grown up.” I hope to take Nevada Home to the next level. Although we have always been a good resource for local homeowners, I think there is so much more to living in Northern Nevada. You may have noticed the tag line we added to our banner: “fresh ideas for better living.” That’s really what we’d like to expand upon.
This month we have some great “fresh ideas” like the eleven refreshing summer drinks (for which there are recipes) featured in our cover story. We also have two colorful spreads featuring some “fresh ideas” from local designers. And as always, there are many “fresh ideas” on living efficiently and heading outside to the garden.
I look forward to bringing you more “fresh ideas” in the coming months, and as always, feel free to send me yours at
