1. Books Sundance Bookstore Sundance Bookstore has a great vibe and an even better selection of DIY, home health, design and alternative craft books. I can’t think of a better gift than a carefully selected book that provides an afternoon of relaxation, a bit of know how. It isn’t difficult to find out someone’s interests and match a book to them. Plus, you’ll have a great time enjoying a small book shop!

2. Turned Alabaster Bowls Ryries Art & Home Ryries is new to Reno, but fans know her previous store in Tahoe City.
I really like the hand-turned alabaster bowls by local artist Mike Phillips. Taking inspiration from his native American heritage, he selects the stone for its unique veining and color, and matches it with select hardwoods. Hors d’oeuvre plates and knives: These whimsical glass dishes send the message loud and clear—“eat” and “dig.” Match with colorful spreading knives to jazz up any party.

3. Glasses Red Chair One of my favorite sounds (and one that always reminds me of my grandparents and the holidays) is the cheerful sound of ice gently tinkling against the side of a classic highball glass. Red Chair offers a really nice selection of these home bar standards, from the traditionally etched ones shown here to funky ’60s styles. Any guy putting together a home bar would really enjoy these classic standards. Match with a cocktail recipe book for a truly unique gift.

4. Jewelry Nevada Museum of Art What’s better than a great holiday lunch, some art and a bit of shopping? I could spend all day at the NMA. And I am particularly enamored with the jewelry by designer Michael Michaud offered in the gift shop. Inspiration taken from nature and frozen forever at its peak of beauty, these pieces are heirloom quality and timeless and would be enjoyed for a lifetime. I particularly like the small pea pods with seed pearl peas and the branch of quaking aspen leaves.

5. Wood Wreaths Garden Shop Nursery
I am always on the lookout for holiday décor that doesn’t scream cliché. These wooden wreaths I found at Garden Shop Nursery are perfect. Their simple, natural charm works well for a seasonal holiday touch and a year-round, Asian-inspired focal point.
